When thinking about losing weight, we often want to lose weight in a week, or other specific time frame. Perhaps there is a party or special ocassion to attend, and we want to look our absolute best. Read on to find out how much weight you can lose in a week, and the best ways of doing so.
Seven days – one week – is a very short time frame to lose weight, but don’t let that deter you. Most doctors and fitness instructors will tell you that for safe, sustained weight loss you should aim to lose no more than 2lbs per week. But sometimes that’s just not good enough, when you receive that last-minute invitation!
The first thing you must do is commit to taking significant exercise every day of that week. You only have seven days to lose the weight, so make every day count! Aim to spend at LEAST an extra hour at the gym per day, and make the majority of your workout cardio (treadmill, rowing machine, bike, etc.)
Don’t have a gym membership? In this case you’ll have to add that hour of activity in a more creative way. Go for a run in the park, go to the local swimming pool, play tennis with a friend, go dancing (but don’t drink calorie-laden alcoholic drinks!) If you have mobility issues, just try to walk for an hour per day. You could split this up into two sections if need me. Push yourself so that you’re sweating and somewhat out of breath, but not to the point of injury.
So that’s your exercise sorted. But in order to maximise the amount of weight you can lose in a week, you’ll need to pay close attention to your diet, too.
Eat right to lose weight in a week
First thing to do: cut out ALL sodas from your diet – including diet soda. Although these diet drinks don’t contain calories, they do contain chemicals and sweeteners which will bloat your stomach and can often increase your appetite. Stick to water! Also cut out caffeinated drinks such as tea and coffee which can have a similar effect and also lead to water retention. The more water you drink, the less water your body will retain and the slimmer your figure will look.
In terms of diet, there are a lot of conflicting opinions about what you should eat on this kind of short-term diet. Crash diets are frowned upon by the medical establishment as unhealthy – also, you tend to just regain the weight as soon as the diet is over.
A lot of people would think that the best way to drop weight quickly is to restrict your calorie intake to an extreme degree – I have known people cut down to 500 calories per day. But this method is sure to backfire. Firstly, you won’t have the energy to workout or even to go about your daily routine. Secondly, by the time your special ocassion comes along, you’re going to look exhausted and washed out with dull skin and hair. Thirdly, you’re putting your health at risk. And lastly, you will be so hungry that you’re almost certain to break down and start eating off plan anyway.
A better solution is to follow a specific eating plan designed by nutritionists. I recommend the Diet Solution Program. This plan is designed scientifically to kick-start your fat-burning process by including the best foods for your metabolism and cutting the foods that cause your body to gain weight.
So how much weight can you lose in a week? That is totally up to you – it depends how much work you are prepared to put in, as well as taking into account your current weight and body type. But by following the workout tips above, and especially by using the Diet Solution Program’s nutritional guidelines, you can maximise your chances of getting into that special outfit and looking great for your big ocassion.
